Design and Symbolism
- Structure vs. Spontaneity
Kumru embodies structure and order, restraint, and rules. In opposition, Fatih embodies freedom, spontaneity, and emotional outpouring. Their dynamic showcases the discomfort that often accompanies the most required changes.
- Urban Heat as Metaphor
The 39-degree heat wave serves as an environment and as a metaphor for the intensifying emotional Kumru and Fatih share. The heat and the daily increase in temperature symbolize their emotional build-up of self and simmering relationship before reaching reality’s boiling point.
- Love as a State of Existence
It depicts the new perspective of three from an ember to a flame, from mild to wild. The movie depicts a shift in focus that accompanies falling in love: a renewed perspective of life, directly facing reality, and constant vulnerability. The film depicts a slow drip and romance, insignificant moves that come together to create remarkable intimacy.
- Emotional Risk
Kumru’s story revolves around learning how to embrace emotional risks. Fatih’s story revolves around appreciating commitment. Their development feels organic rather than contrived which enhances the last few scenes.
